After a neck-to-neck battle against arch-rivals School of Engineering and Architecture, the School of Accountancy and Business Management Women’s Volleyball Team spotlessly wiped two sets (25-21, 26-24), October 22, at the Prince Bernhard Gym.
SABM controlled the pace of the first set. Both teams exchanged points until Team Captain RR Solanon ignited a crosscourt hit for the SABM troupe and notched a 10-point run, giving them the lead, 14-5. SEA’s Lady Builders made their own seven-point run, causing the lead to cut to two, but the ladies in yellow were unfazed as they owned the set.
Second set was a roller coaster for SABM as they took the lead at 8-3, but errors in spiking and reception gave SEA leverage to pull a seven-point lead, 23-16.
However, due to SEA’s own subsequent errors, the backup of the SABM go-to players, Captain Solanon and wing spiker Gillian Sagandoy cut the deficit by 5 at 23-21. SEA chased the set point but its consistent back-to-back errors and a service ace delivered by SABM led the game into deuce. SABM fired another service ace to regain the lead, 25-24, and a final error from the Maroon squad finished the game.
The SABM crowd’s cheer gave a boost to the team’s confidence and performance according to Solanon’s post-game interview. “Lumalakas ‘yung loob namin lalo na [at] naririnig namin ‘yung cheers nila tapos nakikita namin na maraming nagmamahal sa amin, parang mas lalo kaming naging eager na ipanalo ‘yung bawat game lalo na [at] maraming nagtitiwala sa amin at sana sa susunod na games nandiyan pa rin sila,” she said.
Solanon led the team with 10 points (6 attacks, 4 aces) and Sagandoy supported with 6 points (4 attacks, 2 aces).
