Bakakeng PUJ Associations Favor Rerouting

Public utility jeepney associations with representatives from the local government units and from the university, unanimously approved the rerouting proposal in the 1st transpo-summit for the 2nd semester held at Maryheights Campus, Bakakeng, March 13.

Currently, Bakakeng undergoes three road constructions. Phase 1 started from Marcos Highway Junction up to Summerville (400 meters) with project duration of five months while Phase 2 started from SLU Gate 2 and will end at Barangay Hall of Bakakeng (600 meters) expecting two months for its completion.

Another project stretches from Kennon Road to Petersville then to Amparo heights (one kilometer) with completion time of about ten months. Despite the inconvenience, the Goldrich and the Tonka Construction assured that they will do their best in finishing it earlier.

The said road constructions were expected to cause heavy traffic so the transport groups, barangay officials, contractors, and the university representatives called the general public to cooperate and be patient in dealing with the situation to avoid any delays or any untoward incidents.

Furthermore, Vice President of Bakakeng Jeepney Operators and Drivers Association (BJODA) Wilson Bumay-et requested the contractors that their heavy equipment should be put orderly while idle along the road to avoid further interruptions.

Thus, a rerouting scheme was approved to lighten the condition using the alternative route from Camp 7 then to Montecillo, ending at SLU Gate 2. And for private vehicles, they may still use Camp 7 or Balacbac circumferential road. BJODA member Isagani Estigoy advised students to be earlier than the usual to prevent being late for regular classes.

In effect, fares for students, PWDs, and senior citizens will be Php 9.00 and Php 11.50 for non-students or regular passengers. The rerouting scheme will start on Tuesday next week (March 21). Bumay-et clarified that on Mondays, students will have no discounts except for departmental examinations and other activities held on that day which should have been previously relayed to the association.
